The San Diego Chi Epsilon Alumni Association
(SDXEAA) was founded in the early 1990’s to aid
the San Diego State University student chapter and to
provide an extension to the Chi Epsilon alumni in the
San Diego region. The Mission of the SDXEAA is ”
to foster and promote the ideals of the Civil Engineering
Profession through support of the local and regional
Chi Epsilon Student Chapters and through demonstrated
practice of the Pillars of Chi Epsilon.”
Over the past year, the SDXEAA completed many goals
that demonstrated the four pillars of Chi Epsilon to
both the students and alumni. Some of the events hosted
by the Alumni Association over the last year included
an interview and resume workshop for students, tours
of local civil engineering projects, a Padre game tailgate
with over 50 attendees, a mountain bike social, and
various BBQ’s. The SDXEAA aided the student chapter
in setting up a leadership and management speaking program,
as well as aiding in locating Alumni speakers for the
program. Members of the Alumni Association also conducted
initiate mock interviews. The SDXEAA aids the student
officers during their transition meetings and attempts
to answer any questions or offers assistance in resolving
any problems they may have.
In order to continue the tradition of Initiating a
Chapter Honor Member each spring semester, the SDXEAA
provided the student chapter with various candidates
for the Spring 2002 Initiation, of which Mr. Simon Wong
was chosen. The Alumni Association is currently working
with the past three Chapter Honor Members to set-up
a Board of Trustees for the SDSU Chapter by the Fall
of 2002.
In March 2002, the SDXEAA produced an eight-page newsletter
and membership packet that was mailed to 225 of the
approximate 800 members in San Diego. If you would like
to receive a copy of the newsletter or are an XE member
in the San Diego region that did not receive a membership
packet, please e-mail the SDXEAA at sdxealumni@yahoo.com.
Goals for the upcoming summer include hosting another
tailgate and mountain bike tour, as well as a community
service event for both Alumni and students. During the
Fall and Spring, the SDXEAA will continue to help provide
speakers for the student chapter, will help create the
Board of Trustee’s, will host various social events
for both students and Alumni, and will conduct mock
interviews for new Initiates. The interview and resume
workshop will once again be hosted by the SDXEAA early
in the spring semester.
During the Fall 2001 semester, representatives of
the SDXEAA attended the Chi Epsilon Pacific District
Conference. At the conference, the Alumni Association
gave a presentation on the advantages of having an Alumni
Association and the steps to creating one. If you would
like a copy of the presentation or would like more information
on starting an Alumni Association, please send an e-mail
to sdxealumni@yahoo.com.
