Biography
Dr. Robert Holtz, P.E.
Rocky Mountain District Councillor
Member #13885, initiated in 1959 at the University
of Minnesota (Chapter #3, installed in 1925). He served as Faculty Advisor
at the University of Washington-Seattle from 1996 to 2004. Bob Holtz has
degrees in civil engineering from Minnesota and Northwestern. He is
Professor Emeritus of Civil Engineering at the University of Washington in
Seattle. Dr. Holtz has also taught at Purdue and Cal State-Sacramento. Dr.
Holtz has worked for the California Dept. of Water Resources, Swedish
Geotechnical Institute, NRC-Canada, and as a consulting engineer in
Chicago, France, and Italy. His research and publications are mostly on
geosynthetics, soil improvement, foundations, and soil properties, and
instrumentation. He is currently INTERNATIONAL Secretary for the
Geo-Institute of ASCE, AND SERVES ON THE BOARD OF THE ISSMGE. He is a
DISTINGUISHED Member of ASCE, Member Emeritus of TRB Committee A2KO2, Past
President of NAGS, and a past member of the IGS Council; he is also a
member of several other professional and technical organizations.
