Biography
Mr. Randall (Randy) Akiona
National Marshal and Pacific District Councillor
Member #23898 was initiated in April 1969 at
Cornell University (Chapter #5, installed in 1925). Mr. Akiona was an
Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at the University
of Hawaii at Manoa (UH) from August 1998 through July 2006. He specializes
in Construction Management. In August 2006, he joined the faculty of the UH
School of Architecture to become Director of an interdisciplinary program emphasizing construction
management. Currently, the degree program at the UH School of Architecture is
changing and will be soon be offering a Bachelor's Degree in
Environmental Design with emphasis in either construction management, historic preservation, interior design, landscape design,
urban design, or architecture design. Randy will continue
to teach construction management courses in the Civil Engineering Department.
Prior to joining the UH faculty, he was employed by Royal Contracting
Co., Ltd. as a project manager, engineer, and estimator from 1983 to 1998. He
worked as an estimator for Moses Akiona, Ltd. from 1973 to 1983.
Randall graduated from Cornell University with a BS in Civil
Engineering in 1970, where he served as vice-president of their Chi
Epsilon chapter. In 1971, he received an MS in Construction Management
from Stanford University. He received the Hi Chang Chai Excellence in
Teaching Award given by the College of Engineering, UH, in May 2001 and
again in May 2005. He currently serves on the Education Committees of the
National Associated General Contractors of America and the General
Contractors of Hawaii.
